Family is a small private social network with exactly one member list: your family. There is no feed to be ranked into, no algorithm deciding who sees what, nobody selling ads against your children’s photographs, and no way for a stranger to arrive.
It is not a messenger, and that is deliberate. The pace is a board rather than a chat — you post, people reply when they get to it, and a photo from three months ago is still findable. What it replaces is a group text nobody can search and a fridge door nobody can see from another city.
The other half is the vault: the shared facts a family actually runs on. Aunt Jane’s phone number, the address for the cottage, the garage code, everyone’s birthdays. The things somebody always has and nobody can ever find.
All of it is encrypted on your device under a key only your family holds. We store the scrambled version and cannot unscramble it — not for an advertiser, not for a subpoena, not for ourselves.
What it does
A board, not a feed
Posts appear in the order they were written, and stay there. Nothing is promoted, buried, or shown to you because it will keep you scrolling. Reply, react, and get on with your day.
Photos that stay in the family
Attach photos to a post and they are encrypted before they leave your phone. Nobody outside your family can open them, including us — and there is no face recognition, because there is nothing here doing any looking.
The vault
Phone numbers, addresses, birthdays and door codes, in one place everyone can reach. Birthdays surface on the board a fortnight ahead, so the first you hear of one is not a photo of the cake.
One person pays
Whoever sets the family up covers it. Everyone they invite joins free, up to ten people. A family board with one person on it is worth nothing, so charging per seat would price out the only thing that makes it work.
Nobody here can read it
Family encrypts everything on your device before it syncs, with a key derived from your password that never reaches us. What our server stores is a blob we hold no key to. How that works.

Family questions
- How do people join?
- You send them a link. It carries a single-use code that unlocks your family key on their device, so joining takes one tap and a name, and the code stops working after a day. They need a free Klowd account, and nothing else.
- Can you read our posts?
- No. Everything is encrypted on your device under a key generated in your browser and shared only with your family. We hold the scrambled version and no key that opens it. What we can see is that a family exists, who is in it, and when someone posted — never what was said.
- What happens if we stop paying?
- It becomes read-only. Everything stays exactly where it is — nothing is deleted, hidden or held hostage. Start the subscription again and posting resumes.
- Can I post video?
- No, photos only. One two-minute clip costs more to store than a family’s entire year of photographs, and honest pricing means either refusing video or charging everyone for the few who upload it. We refuse the video.
- What if someone leaves the family?
- Remove them and they stop seeing anything new, immediately. What they already opened on their own phone, they keep — no app can reach back and un-see something, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise.
